Identity: profile and share cards
“I want to become ___” is your bio. Your profile and share cards make that identity visible to others.

What it does in Road Mates
- Your bio is the person you are becoming, not a job title.
- Your profile shows your proofs and your heatmap.
- Share cards turn your profile, road or a passed phase into an image to post.
How it works
- Stating who you are becoming ties each action to a self you care about.
- Showing it to others makes the identity real and harder to drop.
- Cards carry a referral link, so sharing also invites people on the same road.
What the research found
Identity-based motivation theory says people act in line with the identities that feel active, and that difficulty feels meaningful when the action fits who they are. We did not find a meta-analysis with a pooled effect. Single studies of possible selves and study effort report effects around d = 0.3 to 0.5.
Limits
- No pooled effect size, so we cannot put a reliable number on it.
- The studies we found were mostly with students.
- We count it at zero in the estimate and expect it to help retention more than outcomes.
