What it does in Road Mates

A coach helps you set the road, reviews your proofs and keeps you moving when a phase stalls. Coaching is available online and in person.

A 15 min session is free. A 1 hour session costs $89.

How it works

  • Coaches see your road and your proofs, with your permission.
  • They help you adjust a phase that is too big or too vague.
  • Short sessions make coaching something you can use at each hard phase, not once a quarter.

What the research found

A meta-analysis of 18 studies on workplace coaching found positive effects on every outcome measured. The largest, g = 0.74, was on goal-directed self-regulation, the closest construct to goal attainment. Other outcomes ranged from g = 0.43 (coping) upward.

Session count mattered less than people expect. The same review found that more sessions added little, and were linked to worse attitude and performance outcomes, probably because clients with harder problems need more sessions. That supports short, targeted sessions over long programs.

Limits

  • The studies were about people in organizations, not independent goal-setters.
  • The measure is self-regulation, not whether the final goal was reached.
  • Coach quality varies. We shrink this effect heavily in our estimate.
