The road, phase by phase

  1. Phase 1: Writing First Five Minutes

    1–2 months

Writing jokes daily in a notebook, watching live comedy, and shaping material into a tight first set. By the end you have a written, rehearsed five-minute set you can deliver from memory.

You're done when you can show

A written five-minute set with a timed rehearsal recording.

  2. Phase 3: Booking Showcase and Guest Spots

    1–2 years

Stop relying only on open mics and start pitching bookers, running or co-producing your own shows, and getting guest spots at clubs. You build a tight 10–15 minutes and relationships that lead to repeat bookings.

You're done when you can show

A clean video of a 10–15 minute set at a booked club or showcase.

  3. Phase 5: Building Audience and Headlining

    2–5 years

Developing a full hour, releasing clips and podcasts to grow a following, and selling tickets under your own name. You produce a headline set that draws an audience and can be recorded as a special or album.

You're done when you can show

A ticketed headline show listing or a released hour-long special or album.
